![]() ![]() ![]() I’ll start by admitting that I’m not as much of a theme park enthusiast as my friends who make a point of going to Disneyland multiple times per year. I got to see Super Nintendo World for myself last Thursday, shortly before its February 17 opening. Media were invited to visit the California park starting in January, and it was met with similarly positive feedback ( we even got to speedrun it during our visit last month). It was met with acclaim despite the difficulties of the pandemic, making fans all the more excited for the condensed version that had already been planned for Hollywood. That partnership came to fruition in 2021 with the grand opening of the first Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan. ![]() “And I thought, 'It's going to be difficult Nintendo's not going to be able to run a theme park business.' As Miyamoto puts it, it’s an opportunity to drive awareness of Nintendo characters among non-gamers who would otherwise never touch a controller. Movie, which pairs familiar Nintendo characters with the voices of Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and other well-known names, are some of the most ambitious undertakings in the company’s long history. That’s what makes Super Nintendo World so significant for Nintendo. “Nintendo has a lot of characters…I think that sometimes Nintendo gets tossed in with other companies in the field of video games, but we’ve got to think that Nintendo’s biggest strength is its characters and how that is used in different types of media beyond just games.” ,” Miyamoto explains, referencing the late executive who was Nintendo’s CEO until his death in 2015. “This is something I’d been discussing for over 10 years with Mr. ![]()
